US Monitoring (USMON) is a comprehensive platform designed to manage the flow of information throughout a patient’s lifecycle within the hospital environment. With a focus on neurological treatments and intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM), USMON centralizes critical health data and coordinates with social security organizations and hospitals to optimize care.

By integrating multiple aspects of the hospital process, USMON enhances patient care quality, optimizes hospital resources, and simplifies administrative processes.

The Challenge

Despite its success in the market, USMON faced significant technological challenges. The company lacked an integral technological strategy to support its growing business, resulting in a low-quality solution with limited scalability to adapt to new markets and business lines.

The platform was developed and maintained by a set of independent external providers, leaving all knowledge about the system in the hands of a single person outside the company. This led to unexpected downtimes, difficulties in implementing new features, and inability to meet client demands for innovative functionalities. USMON needed a business partner, not just a technology provider, to address its priorities through sustainable modernization projects.

Stage 1:
Choosing an Ecosystem of Solutions to Completely Transform a Business:

The Path to AWS

To tackle these challenges, DinoCloud began by thoroughly understanding the core and implications of USMON’s existing solution, which was built on Microsoft Azure infrastructure services and a complex monolithic application in a deprecated version of Java and JSP.

Our project was divided into several key milestones:

  1. Lift-and-Shift Infrastructure Migration: We migrated USMON’s infrastructure from Azure to AWS, deploying necessary components including networking, compute, storage, and databases. This ensured a solid and scalable foundation for future improvements.
  2. Storage Technology Change: Over 200 TB of files and data were migrated from Azure Storage to Amazon S3, allowing for greater efficiency and compatibility with the AWS ecosystem.
  3. Database Migration: We planned and migrated Microsoft SQL Server databases to an open-source database, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, providing a more flexible and cost-effective solution using Amazon RDS.

Stage 2:
Demonstrating Innovation to Users with Generative AI

While undertaking the migration, USMON needed to showcase innovation to its clients. We focused on transforming USMON’s outdated analytics module by leveraging the advanced capabilities of Amazon QuickSight and Amazon Q in AWS.

Our steps included:

  1. Redesigning the Analytics Module: We completely redesigned the analytics module using Amazon QuickSight, replacing the monolithic and non-scalable dashboards. We implemented embedded dashboards within USMON’s solution, utilizing Row Level Security to provide each tenant’s information to the respective users.
  2. Implementing Generative AI: We integrated Amazon Q in QuickSight, allowing users to interact with data conversationally. Users can now ask about specific metrics and receive responses in the form of dynamic and customized dashboards, elevating the analytics module to a new level of functionality and customization.

Stage 3:
Mobile App Development

The third stage involved developing and improving a mobile application that was initially delegated to an external company and never brought to production. Our goal was to make the application functional and robust, evolving it based on a detailed discovery of user needs. The project began as a proof of concept and is now becoming a reality.
